South Carolina's Morin Named CCM Vector ECHL Rookie Of The Month
PRINCETON, N.J. - South Carolina center Travis Morin is the CCM Vector ECHL Rookie of the Month for October.
The Brooklyn Park, Minn. native had 11 points with six goals, two power-play goals, two shorthand goals and one game-winning goal, five assists and a plus-minus rating of +7 rating as the Stingrays went 4-2-1.
The 6-foot-2 and 195-pound Morin started the season with a power-play goal and an assist in a 7-3 win against Columbia on Oct. 20 and he added an assist the following night in a 3-2 loss at Augusta. After scoring the game-winning goal in a 6-2 victory at Wheeling on Oct. 26, Morin had a shorthand goal in a 4-1 win at Elmira on Oct. 28 and an assist in a 3-2 loss to Charlotte on Oct. 30.
The 23 year old ended the month with a career-high five-point night, including his first-ever hat trick, including a power-play goal and a shorthand goal, and two assists in a 6-5 loss at Columbia.
Selected in the ninth round (263rd overall) by Washington in the 2004 National Hockey League Entry Draft and under NHL contract to the Capitals, Morin is currently playing in the American Hockey League with Hershey. He began his professional career in 2006-07 with South Carolina playing in eight games and scoring three points (2g-1a).
Morin played four seasons at Minnesota State University Mankato where he had 133 points (58g-75a) and 84 penalty minutes in 151 games from 2003-07.
