When buying women's figure skates, it's important to consider several factors to ensure a comfortable and supportive skating experience. Beginners should prioritise comfort and stability with medium-stiff skates, while intermediate and advanced skaters need more support and higher quality blades. Fit and comfort are of the utmost importance, you can measure your feet and use the size guide available on our website. Make sure to take both length and width into account. Pay attention to ankle support, lining and padding, and consider heat shaping for a custom fit. Blade quality is also crucial, with higher quality steel providing better performance and durability. The stiffness of the shoe should match your skill level, with higher-level skaters needing stiffer shoes.

How does ankle padding affect women's figure skating?
Many of our figure skates have extra ankle padding. The ankle area is a central point of support, and the padding effectively fills the space between the skater's ankle and the shoe, creating a secure and snug fit. This snug fit is of the utmost importance for stability, especially during complicated manoeuvres such as jumps and pirouettes, where precise control is essential. Padding even plays a significant role in preventing injuries. Adequate padding acts as a buffer, cushioning the ankle against these impacts and reducing the risk of sprains, strains and other injuries. It also minimizes friction, preventing chafing and blisters. As well as protection, ankle padding significantly improves overall comfort, especially during long workouts, by reducing pressure points and discomfort caused by the rigid structure of the shoe. Also, it helps to customise the fit of the shoe, especially for those with narrower ankles or those who end up between sizes. This means a safer and more comfortable experience, with more control and a better performance. Finally, ankle padding helps reduce the risk of shoelace chafing - a painful irritation of the tendons on the front of the ankle caused by pressure from the laces.

What to think about when choosing the size of women's figure skates.
When choosing women's figure skates, choosing the right size is crucial for comfort, performance and injury prevention. Measure your feet and use the size guide that you can find on our website. Figure skates should fit snugly, but not too tightly. Your toes should be able to wiggle around a little, but there should not be room for too much movement inside the shoe. Pay attention to the width of the shoe, as women's feet vary greatly in width, and the right width is essential for comfort and support. Make sure that the heel is tight and does not slip during movement. Remember that a sock should also be able to fit in the skate. Stiffer shoes, especially those for advanced skaters, need to be broken in, so gradually increase your skating time to allow the shoes to mould to your feet. Women's feet often have different proportions than men's feet, with narrower heels and wider forefeet, so make sure your shoe takes these differences into account. Beginners can choose figure skates that sit a little looser, but avoid shoes that are too loose, as they can lead to instability and injury. Advanced skaters require a very precise fit for optimal performance, and special customisation and heat shaping might be necessary.
